Every October, the center of gravity in technology shifts to a single building in San Francisco. TechCrunch Disrupt is where the industry's founders, investors, and operators come to see what's actually being built — not what's being announced. This year, Blueprints AI will be there on the floor for all three days.
Why Disrupt Is the Room to Be In
For nearly two decades, Disrupt has been the definitive gathering of the global startup ecosystem, and 2026 is its largest edition yet. TechCrunch is staging the conference across six topic-organized stages — including the main Disrupt Stage for big-picture conversations, a Builders Stage for the practical mechanics of running a company, and a Smart Money Stage devoted to payments, fraud, and fintech infrastructure — with more than 200 sessions and over 250 speakers. More than 10,000 founders, investors, and startup community members attend each year, and this year's programming leans hard into building in the AI era, with speakers from OpenAI, Anthropic, Replit, Amazon, and Databricks.
That mix is what makes Disrupt different from a trade show. It is simultaneously a newsroom, a dealroom, and a proving ground. It remains the Valley's signature startup event — the expo floor, the Battlefield, and three days of dealmaking in one place. TechCrunch has spent twenty years earning the right to convene that room, and the reason founders fight for a spot on that floor is simple: the people who decide what gets funded, covered, and adopted are all in it at the same time.

Battlefield is the original startup pitch competition, and its track record is the reason the list carries weight. More than 1,700 companies have come through the program, together raising over $32 billion and producing more than 250 exits, including acquisitions by Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, Uber, and Amazon — Dropbox, Cloudflare, Discord, Trello, and Fitbit among them, each surfaced by TechCrunch before the wider market caught on.
Selection is deliberately demanding. Applications are reviewed by both the Battlefield team and TechCrunch's editorial staff — journalists embedded in their industries, judging each company by what is genuinely new and worth paying attention to — across a multistep process of up to four rounds. The committee's central question is what a product actually changes; a better version of something that already exists doesn't clear the bar. The Top 20 finalists will be revealed live on Day 1, October 13. Five of those go on to pitch a second time on the closing day, before a new panel of judges, for $100,000 in equity-free prize money and the Disrupt Cup.
